Apple Pie Moonshine

I make this deliciousness every year for Christmas/anytime gifts and for myself- duh.  I got this recipe from an old hair client and have changed it a bit over the years.  Disclaimer: this isn’t actual “moonshine.”  In Michigan, real unflavored shine is nearly impossible to find so I make do with using Everclear.  This recipe is freaking amazingggg and doesn’t last very long so you might want to make a double batch!!

Apple Pie Moonshine – Makes about 15 pints

  • 1 gal Apple Cider
  • 1 gal Apple Juice
  • 6 – 3in Cinnamon Sticks
  • 1 1/2 c White Sugar
  • 1 1/2 c Brown Sugar
  • 1 tsp Apple Pie Spice
  • 1 Vanilla Bean or 2 tsp Vanilla
  • 1L – 750 ml Everclear or Unflavored Moonshine

Add the first 5 ingredients into a large stock pot and bring to a boil until the sugar is dissolved.  Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.  Remove cinnamon sticks, strain with cheesecloth and pour into jars.

I’ve been making this every year for about 10 years and it’s always a crowd pleaser.  I bring it to lots of parties and give it as gifts. But mostly, I make it for myself!  You can add Whipped Vodka to bring up the alcohol content a bit or leave it as is.  Let me know whatcha think in the comments!
