I’m sensing a theme here. BACON!! That’s one thing that is always on my grocery list. I’m not sure where I got this delicious recipe but I’ve been making it for over 10 years and every time someone new tried it they ask for the recipe. It’s easy to make and only has a few ingredients. I made this while Halloweekend camping recently and took these photos at our campsite so bear with me, as I may have skipped some step photos! HAHA!
Bacon Green Beans
Prep Time: 40 minutes
1.5-2 lb Fresh Green Beans
1-1.5 lb Sliced Bacon
1 C Water
1 T Vinegar
Dash of Red Pepper Flakes
Start by heating a deep skillet on medium heat and fry the bacon. I can fit 1.5 pounds with no problem in one pan. By gently folding the bacon in quarters and standing it on its side you can successfully fit alllll the bacon. While the bacon is frying wash and trim your beans and set aside. Remove your bacon from the pan and drain for crisping when it’s cooked to your liking.
Pour out half of the bacon grease, keeping 3 tablespoons in the pan. I use an old pickle jar and keep it in the fridge. It’s great for making grilled cheese or adding the salty smokey flavor to other dishes.
Turn the heat to simmer and add water, be careful of splatter! Add the green beans and a lid to simmer for 15-20 minutes until beans are bright green. While the beans are cooking chop the bacon. Periodically stir the beans and scrape the yummy bits from the bottom of the pan.
Add vinegar, red pepper flakes, and bacon.
Enjoy! Let me know what you think of this easy recipe!
